THE RIVIERA MAYA
Puerto Aventuras is situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya 87km (54 miles) South of Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
This area, which stretches 100km along the Caribbean Coast from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum is a diverse and unique ecosystem with an extraordinary amount of natural flora and fauna. The Riviera Maya is home to a lush tropical jungle with an abundance of fresh water Cenotes, Mangroves, pristine white sand beaches and the second largest barrier reef in the World. The Island of Cozumel is only a 45-minute ferry ride away. The beautiful Caribbean waters and the scenic jungle Caverns and Caves offer an ideal training location and superb diving. The Cenotes are the windows into an intricate and beautiful underground river system that flows out into the Ocean. These underwater cave systems - or Anchialine Conduit Connected Karst Aquifers to give them there proper name - are more extensive here than anywhere else in the World. Indeed all three of the Worlds longest submerged cave systems are found here on this coastline. Truly a Cave Diver's Paradise! The concentration of Cenotes starts at Puerto Aventuras and goes South past Xpu-Ha, Kantenah, Akumal, Cheymuyil, Xcacel, Xel-Ha, Tankah, Tulum, Boca Paila and West to Pino Saurez. A modern new highway the 307 links all these places together and has made travelling between them faster, easier and safer. Ocean diving is just as easy with a variety of dive sites suitable for both recreational and technical diving only a 10-minute boat ride from Puerto's marina on the World's second largest Barrier Reef. |
